Letting Go Of Striving: Trusting Your Authentic Desires

Definition of Strive — To make great efforts to achieve or obtain something. To struggle or fight vigorously.

Every time I chase a goal, it doesn’t work out.

This could be because I’m a manifesting generator in human design and I’m meant to respond to what comes into my environment.

Or it could be because I’m chasing a goal from a sense of fear and anxiety, believing I need to achieve it in order to be worthy, happy, get what I want, etc.

I think both are true.

The thing is, I really want to chase goals.

I love the idea of waking up at 5:00 am, having a plan for every 15 minute time chunk of my day and completely transforming my life within a year.

It feels exciting and it feels like I’m really making something happen with my life.

And I know I could do it…if I just tried harder.

If this mentality worked for me though, I would have been wealthy with the perfect husband, perfect body and traveling the world by 25.

I’ve been secretly indulging in self-development since I was 12 and I’ve put in my 10,000 hours of learning the strategies needed to live an incredible life.

If it worked out for me, I’d still be chasing goals!

But I’ve fallen on my face feeling like a failure over and over again only to realize that I have to do it another way.

I’ve learned that I really don’t like the feelings that come with the pressure and the hustle mentality. And I don’t like who I turn into.

The pain and self-sacrifice that comes with that has forced me to rethink my desire for the end results all together.

If I have to feel that much pain along the way, is it even worth it? Is that the lifestyle I want?

For me, it’s a no.

And the peace that comes with that realization every time I surrender to it is what I truly desire.

Some would say that means I’m weak and lack discipline.

But when I truly want something, I naturally go after it.

The desire just shows up in my life and I move towards it without a second thought.

I don’t have to push myself. I naturally have the drive to make it happen.

And when I have that experience, I know it’s my higher power guiding me.

Ask Yourself

Are you trying to make something happen because you believe you need to in order to feel ok about yourself?

Do you feel a sense of dread, struggle or pressure?

Or are you naturally drawn towards something and the effort it takes to move toward it energizes you?

What would it feel like to let the pressure go?
