Rent-Free and Earning $3500+ a Month as a full-time House Sitter
My Journey to Time Freedom
As a highly-sensitive person, I need an abundance of time to think, rest, take care of myself and prepare for social situations.
I’ve always dreamed of running a business from my lap top so I can plan my own schedule, take care of my health, and have the freedom to do what I want with my days.
Rock bottom
In March of 2022, I hit a financial rock bottom. I couldn’t pay my rent for the second month in a row and I had failed another business venture.
I was experiencing health problems and major adrenal fatigue symptoms.
Getting a regular 9–5 job wasn’t an option. I knew my health would get worse from the daily stress of disliking a job, being forced to work hours that drained me, and spending time around people all day — just to barely make ends meet.
I fantasized about living nomadically and covering my bills with a job that was enjoyable rather than stressful.
I wanted to use my free time to build a business doing something I loved, but I could barely hold my head above water.
I needed financial security and freedom of time to take care of my very real physical and emotional needs.
Miracles
I had been taking housesitting jobs on the side for a few years. These gigs included staying in someone’s home, taking care of their pets, plants and gathering the mail while they were away for a very small nightly fee.
It felt like a bit of a vacation staying in someone’s home — a home that was usually nicer than my own while hanging out with sweet animals and getting paid for it.
With a prayer to God and a delusional daydream about the possibility of housesitting full-time to escape my situation, I experimented with polishing my housesitting profile and increased my nightly rate to $75.
Within 20 minutes, I was booked for a 10-day stay. My prayer had been answered. I raised my rate to $100 per night and the bookings started pouring in.
Within 3 weeks, I put notice in at my apartment, sold my furniture and packed my things.
It’s now 19 months later and I’ve lived rent-free since, making $3000-$4000 a month. I spend my days enjoying the animals and the homes I’m staying in, taking care of my health, building my online business, saving money and paying off debt.
This lifestyle won’t last forever but I now have the time and energy to build an online business I love and I’m grateful to feel a sense of wellbeing on a daily basis.
